The Museum of Henryk Sienkiewicz in Oblęgorek

The museum in Oblęgorek exists since 1958. It was founded thanks to the Ministry of Art and Culture and the generosity of many people. It is situated near the city of Kielce, in a mansion, which had been a gift for Henryk Sienkiewicz from the Polish nation. The museum shows the interiors of the writer’s estate: the study, living room, bedroom, dining room and smoking room.

Many of novelist’s authentic belongings and numerous documents, directly related to him, have been gathered in here, e.g. a very interesting and vast set of photographs of Sienkiewicz and his relatives. Another important part of the inventory are letters, drawings and manuscripts, as well as precious family portraits and illustrations for the writer’s works. The museum owns the biggest collection of offerings, albums, and jubilee addresses, given to Sienkiewicz in 1900 on the 25th anniversary of his literary work as a sign of recognition and celebration of his talent. Additionally, the institute conducts interactive museum lessons and academic sessions during which it hosts many acknowledged researchers of Sienkiewicz’s life and work. This includes also the workers of the museum who present their dissertations not only on the Oblęgorek sessions, but also on certain outdoor meetings, organised by various institutions. Moreover, the museum cooperates with several artistic societies.
