3RD CORE REGIONAL STAKEHOLDER MEETING – LEARNING ABOUT GOOD COMPOSTING PRACTICES IN RURAL AREAS
The third meeting of the regional stakeholders of the CORE project ‘Composting in rural areas’ was organised at the Waste Management Company in Promnik. So we not only had the opportunity to talk about our project activities, but also to visit the company and learn about its specifics, which was interestingly talked about by the president Mirosław Banach.
And what is happening in our international project? We are at the stage of learning about good practices. One of these is the so-called composting champions. In Belgium, and since 1994, there have been – as a bottom-up initiative – voluntary teams of volunteers who help municipalities to promote home composting.
The Aktion Biotonne, an education and information campaign in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany, which aimed to improve the quality of bio-waste collected from residents in the city, also had very interesting and tangible results.
We are investigating which solutions for the management of bio-waste in rural areas we could apply in the region.
The CORE project ‘Composting in Rural Environments’ is funded by the European Union, under the INTERREG EUROPA 2021 – 2027 programme.
It involves 11 stakeholders from the Świętokrzyskie region. These include representatives of 6 regional municipal waste management facilities, representatives of government administration, i.e. the Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection, representatives of municipalities and entrepreneurs.
The project is coordinated by the Department of Regional Development with the cooperation of the Department of Agriculture, Climate and Environment.
