CORE project. We present good practices from the Świętokrzyskie region
Soil improver and biogas – such good practices from our region were presented during the first meeting of partners of the international CORE project, which took place in the Castilla La Mancha region in Spain. The Marshal Office of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship is the only Polish participant in this project.
“Composting in Rural Environments” (CORE) is a project implemented under the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 program, in which, in addition to the local government of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, representatives of eight countries participate. Its main goal is to look for innovative and effective solutions and exchange experiences regarding regional policy in the area of bio-waste management.
Creating good solutions in this area is extremely important, because from 2023, all EU Member States are obliged to selectively collect bio-waste or ensure its recycling at source. By 2035, 65 percent municipal waste must be recycled, however, due to the significant amount of bio-waste, this goal may be difficult to achieve. Therefore, we need to look for effective solutions to meet EU requirements.
The first meeting of the project participants took place in Ciudad Real in the Spanish region of Castilla La Mancha. It was attended by 40 representatives from partner countries, including: Spain, Italy, Poland, Hungary, Greece, Germany, Sweden and Belgium.
The study visit was an excellent opportunity to learn about good practices in waste management, including with the regional bio-waste strategy of Castilla La Mancha. Our region also presented its solutions – representatives of the provincial government from the Departments: of Investment and Development, as well as of Environment and Waste Management, introduced three presentations on good practices and experiences of our region in the area of bio-waste.
The parners also partcipated in study visits, the main topic of which was eco-composting and centralized composting in Almagro, as well as a care center for disabled people where biocomposting successfully operates (ADIN Villanueva de los Infantes). Among many interesting experience there was visiting the urban gardens in Ciudad Real, where biocomposting is also used. The meetings and visits ended with the CORE project Steering Committee session, during which issues related to the implementation of the project and plans for the coming semester were discussed.
The CORE project will be implemented over the next four years as part of the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 program, which is financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The Marshal Office of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, as one of the nine partners of the project partners, and at the same time the only only from Poland, has a budget of PLN 739,000 for its implementation, of which PLN 591,000 is EU funding.
