About project CORE Interreg Europe 2021-2027
With a view to the green transformation of the swietokrzyskie region and seeking innovative solutions for bio-waste management in rural areas, the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship has joined the international project “CORE – composting in rural areas.” The aim of the project is to exchange experience and learn about good practices in bio-waste management in rural areas.
The project, co-financed under the Interreg Europe 2021-2027 programme, involves 11 stakeholders from the Swietokrzyskie Voivodeship. These include representatives of 6 regional municipal waste management facilities, government administration i.e. The Regional Inspectorate for Environmental Protection and the Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection, representatives of municipalities and entrepreneurs. The knowledge and experience of the stakeholders will allow the project to achieve the best possible results..
It should be emphasized that waste prevention and bio-waste recycling is a key element of a circular economy. The Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship is largely agricultural, and bio-waste accounts for the largest share of the municipal waste stream, including in rural areas. Their management therefore plays an important role, inter alia, in meeting the requirements imposed by the EU, i.e. achieving the levels of preparing for re-use and recycling of municipal waste and reducing the level of its landfilling.
Good practices observed with foreign partners and the knowledge gained during the project will enable municipalities to manage bio-waste even better, particularly in sparsely populated rural areas. Raising local communities’ awareness of how bio-waste can be managed “at source” will enable people in our region to make the best possible use of it themselves, in line with the spirit of circular economy, while at the same time obtaining valuable fertiliser.
Moreover, the solutions developed in the implementation of the project will contribute as recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the disbursement of EU funds under the regional policy instrument “European Funds for Świętokrzyskie 2021-2027”.
The CORE project “Composting in Rural Environments” is co-financed 80% by the European Regional Development Fund under the 1st call of the INTERREG EUROPA 2021 – 2027 Programme, Policy objective 2: Greener Europe, Specific objective: Circular and resource-efficient economy. The total project budget is: EUR 1,856,526.00, of which the amount attributable to the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship is EUR 160,060.00 and the Voivodeship’s own contribution is EUR 32,012.00.
